Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has recently taken the first step in the development of Canal Istanbul. Despite criticism & concerns over the environmental and economic effects of the project, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has remained firm and confident about the project calling it a historic “new page” in Turkey’s development.
“Today we are opening a new page in the history of Turkey’s development,” Erdogan said on Saturday at a ground-breaking ceremony of Sazlidere Bridge over the planned route.
Erdogan said: “The project was approved by the Environment Report and included a study carried out by 56 institutions. More than 200 scientists participated in the studies, and the study ended with the participation of citizens and fieldwork.”

Despite much criticism and environmental concerns from critics, this mega-project is being taken forward for the purpose of preventing & obliviating risks posed by vessels carrying dangerous shipments through the Bosphorus Strait. The benefits of Canal Istanbul far outweigh any concerns.
